Depressed mood is common and can take many forms: an adjustment reaction to a life event; a mild, long-standing state of sadness; or a deep despair that makes it hard to function from day-to-day. Depressed mood can be a "normal" reaction to a loss, a seasonal episode ("winter blues"), or a response to childbirth ("post-partum depression"). Whatever its origin, all people who suffer from depression can benefit from the support of caring others. This Care Topic is designed to address the need for support and to facilitate the exchange of information on depression and its treatment.
